Do What You Say You Are Going To Do (and don’t care what other people think)

I have found that there are too many people who just talk about doing things. They dream about one day becoming the person they want to be, but they never take action. Someone once said to me, “Mike, the light isn’t always going to be green.” Meaning that if you only dream or wait for the stars to be aligned, that day may never come.

Goals are for achieving; dreaming should be left for sleeping.
In order to become that person you want to be, you need to take action.

I define action in two ways – mental and physical. Mentally you need to think about and visualize your goals. Actually see yourself working towards your goals and achieving them. Then, you have to physically do it. Meaning you must go out and do what is necessary to achieve your goals. I have found the second part is the most difficult for people. If you only do the first part of action, then you are a dreamer. If you do both, then you are a doer.

I was recently counseling someone about a business he was trying to break into. He had the experience, the knowledge, the passion, and even the drive, but yet he hadn’t done anything. When I pushed this person and said what are you waiting for? He replied by saying that he was waiting for the cards to fall into place; an idiom similar to my “light isn’t always going to be green.”

People often ask me what has made me successful. There are many factors and people who have helped me along the way, but ultimately what has made me successful is taking action and doing what I said I was going to.

Another very important thing that has made me successful is not caring about what people say or think about me. This is a broad statement so let me explain. A friend of mine recently called me in a panic and said, “Did you see what Mike said about you on Facebook?” Now Mike was an employee who I just fired. I told her I didn’t; she then asked if I wanted to know. I then said NO! I don’t want to know and I don’t care. I have found that successful people, wealthy people and people in the public eye, for the most part, don’t care what others say. When I looked into why, I found the answer within myself. I don’t care what people say or think about me. I’m never going to be liked by everyone in the world. But I know this – I am a good person, a loving and caring person, who is trying to help others and achieve my goals.

Stop dreaming, stop worrying about what others think, and start doing. Your “dreams” will soon become your reality.
